Hello to all members, supporters, readers and G.S.D. devotees.
We hope 2012 will be kind to you and yours and your pets.
If you look at the website you will know we have been as busy as we are able since the last update. Many Car-Boots and Doggy events have seen some or all of us trustees and helpers arriving at unhealthy times of the day to meet and greet the dog loving public.
Dorie and her staff at Heathrow Boarding Kennels, Green Lane Farm Kennels and everyone there, Sue and Keith in West Chiltington, Carol and Andrew at K9 Rescue Remedy, our little group of fosterers and the wonderful veterinary surgeons that use their skills to heal the rescues (many come to us with health problems), we thank them all for their kindness and sympathy towards the dogs in our care.
Thank you to all the people who have laboured tirelessly raising funds to keep our finances afloat so that we can keep abreast of our expenses, and thank you to all those who have sent us donations towards the general costs of running the charity.
SOME CAUSE OF STRESS IN ADULT RESCUES
The G.S.D. is or should be a strong healthy dog but trying to adjust to today’s world creates health problems in a sensitive and intelligent animal. Correct exercise and mental stimulation can help avoid stress.
If the owner or other person in the household is causing a stressful atmosphere, the dog will pick it up too. If the owner is suddenly rushed to hospital having been taken ill, the dog will not understand and can become thoroughly upset, especially if he/she is put into kennels. It will also become stressed if a canine companion goes to the vet and doesn’t come back. It is better to allow the surviving dog to see and scent the deceased pal.
Change of ownership is also very stressful and it can take weeks for the dog to settle, causing adverse effects on wellbeing, particularly if the re-homing has been because of previous abusive treatment. Homeopathic essences can be helpful and soothing in some cases.
These wonderful animals need you, thank you for giving them secure ‘forever’ and happy homes.
