Dogs Needing Homes

Kane

Kane is an 11 month old entire male who has come into rescue.
He has a wonderful temperment, he is good with people and has lived with children of 10 and 15 yrs and has mixed with younger children in the family. He is OK with dogs but needs some training on how to meet them in a calm manner. He is microchipped and vaccinated. He is very good in the car and well behaved whilst eating, he is used to being left for 2/3 hours, and is fine at the vets. Not safe with cats. He likes to play ball and is happy to play on his own as well. He is house trained. He is not destructive. He has been allowed off lead but he needs some training with his recall.
Kane was lame when he came in and his previous owners had taken him to the vets two days before and had been told that he needed xrays but they could not afford them. We have now had him xrayed and have found that he has pulled the ball joint out of the hip socket and it is now resting just above the socket. The vet has told us that this injury probably happened three months ago as arthritis has now formed in the socket so the ball joint cannot go back in. The good news is that because Kane is so young and still growing the ball joint is making its own socket in the bone just above and we have been advised by the vet that in another three months time the socket will support the ball joint properly. This means that Kane should lead a fairly normal life with hardly any limp at all. The vet has recommended that Kane has some physio and water treadmill to build up the muscles in his back legs so as to support him better and Greyfriars Hydrotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre in Guildford are helping us to do this with no charge to the rescue.
We are desperate to get Kane out of kennels and into a home where he can be in a controlled environment and not be jumping around all day and are keen to find either a foster or permanent home for him as soon as possible. This home would need to be in an area where it is still possible to get him to Greyfriars for his treatment. We are willing to pick him up and take him for his treatment if it is a problem for whoever fosters/adopts Kane. We are there to support you if you decide Kane is the dog for you.
